In 1940, to prevent the Nazis from taking away the Nobel medals from James Franck (Physical Chemistry) and Max von Laue (Physics) radiochemist George de Hevesy dissolved their two medals in aqua regia. Which is a powerful mixture of acids that dissolves noble metals.
He took the solution and placed it on a shelf within his laboratory before fleeing the Nazi occupation of Denmark.
After the war George de Hevesy came back and found the solution where he had left it. The Nazis had not noticed it. He then separated the gold precipitate from the aqua regia to have it recast it into medals once again.
A war passed and James Franck and Max von Laue had their Nobel medals again.
idk you guys I just feel like if you haven’t read the books and then you watch the third movie it makes no sense at all
Whenever I watch it with people who didn’t reads the books I have to explain the whole marauders backstory to them and some of that stuff could have been really beautiful and I really would have liked to see it
dude I have this fantasy of, like, a decade from now when the movies are all long over with, HBO will obtain the rights to do a mini-series for each book that will be able to encompass ALL THE DETAILS and treat all the characters right (MARAUDERS. TONKS. NEVILLE. MALFOYS. ETC ETC ETC.) and I will spend seven years crying into my tea.
OH my god I have the exact same fantasy. And all the storylines will be told right instead of compressed strangely for time, and the quidditch matches will actually matter…and we’ll finally win the house cup!
